We’ll it be now officially in the public arena that the Police and ACC have jointly rolled out some radar drones in some unknown locations. Great idea and reality one doesn’t care who came up with it, as long as it keeps drivers on their toes. Aadvark also had this idea a while back when he was doing some testing of a radar unit, so good to see it wasn’t just a one person thing. I personally couldn’t really see the point in a radar unit myself, if one is going to speed then do so, and take the hit if you get pulled over. One place I do NOT condone speeding though is in the 50km zones, as that normally means children are in the area, and cars and kids don’t mix well at all.
Warnings, yes well facebook again in coming into play, where a want-a-be stuntman is seeking fans to support him doing a clime up a wind wand. But Police and the local council are already onto it, and have warned him against doing said action. The scary thing is, if he had approached the council with a PLAN, covered all his bases etc, then it possibly would have been allowed to attempt it. Stuntmen/woman plan every last detail to ensure complete safety, but the youth of today just jump in and do it, and pray for the best out-come. Why are we always having to put them on the right track, where were the parents in this case??
starting off with a quick review of the current laws around the carrying of knives in a public place. As there have been a few incidents in the media of recent where the result has been a death etc, so now the government will look at whether the current laws are appropriate.
Then we move onto a pie lover, that refuses to surrender to the Police after a bit of a fight. They eventually talk him around by the sounds of it, but all this for a pie….. some people have their priorities set a little strange.
Pursuit rules, at least the fact that the Police had to abandon a pursuit so quickly is bringing around more discussion over whether they should or not. Depending on which side of the public you are on, the Police can not win this battle, they are wrong to abandon a pursuit if that vehicle goes on to have a major accident anyway, and they are wrong to continue pursuing, so really the discussion needs to come back to the public. Are we not sick and tired of idiots evading the Police and endangering other peoples lives or NOT. We need our police to have authority to do their job, that is what we employee them for. They are there to protect us, to arrest the badies, and make the world a better place. The government of the day should pull there finger out and get on with ensuring that the Police have the correct power and authority to do their JOB.
Now a bit of a night out with Police, media write up, not a bad read for a normal night in Aucks.
The Police are adapting to the digital age, and its a good thing that the crims aren’t quite able to figure this out. An overseas one, but hey, lets keep our facebook page updated, just so the cops can find us.
And finally we have an article on the lovely Taser, keeping the NZ Crims in check, cause it is far easier to surrender than to be zapped by a taser
Got to be one of the best investments Police have made, a mostly non-lethal weapon to ensure an arrest goes the right way.
We’ll it did in this story. Burglar trying to get away from a cop, uses his radio cord to try and chock him, but back-fired when the cop overpowered him back
. Go the Police. Good to see this one working out the right way, as NZ just does not need any more dead cops.
So don’t mess with them, unless you are planning on going to jail. I just have to say, good on you for taking control of the situation and getting the sod put behind bars. All any situation takes is ONE person to say enough. The minute that happens then people get caught for doing wrong and they don’t get to do it again.
hmmm, lets attack the Police, seems the news is full of this video just put onto youtube, where a couple of officers seem to be taking donations and letting kids have some fun with the light and sirens in a patrol car while taken for a bit of a spin. Parent seems to be complaining about the lack of safety, yet I’m struggling with which part of all this was unsafe. Two highly trained officers, and it doesn’t even look like there is any great speed involved. Some people just want to stir it up. Oh yeah don’t forget that this vid was actually taken on the 22nd Nov 2008, so it has taken over a year for them to release it.
We’ll social networking has taken off, and most if not everybody is connected in some way to one of the various options.. But what does this all mean? We’ll in the case of crims, it means they need to become a bit more savy in what they publish on the net, as once it is up, then there is a hope in hell of getting it down. Example is this story, where an under-ager from US was drinking and driving, and the judge has taken into consideration comments from her facebook page where it shows her re-offending on the drinking side of things.
We already have seen some situations within NZ where employers have sacked employees for things that have been posted on social networking sites. Some of those cases have been reversed by the employment authority, but I’m sure the issue is just going to get worse. People have to start thinking, ie the UK have camera monitoring everywhere, the US are watching the net, so everything we say, do, think is being tracked somewhere. One just has to start thinking, and then think again before you hit that submit button.
yes, it is no longer just a big city problem, Crime is spreading across the country, and starting to affect the little towns that make up New Zealand. And yes, the same conditions are there as well, potentially armed (ie got a gun), and high speed driving in rural areas. At least in this case they (the Police) got them, just a shame that the sods involved members of the public in their crash.
this is not a good look, especially when we also realise that this all occurred in my own town. But it does raise the question at a higher level as to why we (ie society) have these problems. Are we not focusing enough attention at the teens or are there not enough things for them to do. Was being a teen in your day the same, unlikely. But WHAT has changed.?
On another note though, reading this article, makes me somewhat pleased (at the moment) that I do not live in the United Kingdom, which over the last several years has moved be becoming a very state sponsored convert surveillance nation. Strangely enough this is possibly something that I would expect from the like of China, but it would seem this is not the case. From the article we have the Police force looking to run UAVs to monitor situations (be that protests or events) or even just leave them running all the time. But I suppose the upshot of this is that all those movies we watch where you see a blimp or other UAV flying along is now becoming reality. One bonus that is already from the movies, is they will become an excellent funding stream, by having ads showing 24/7, I’m sure this will make somebody happy.
At least I’m sure the rider thought so, until he forgot to drive “around” the police car. At least he is off the road now, which is safer for all of us, specially as it sounds like he was packing a gun with him.
Then we have the motorcyclist that resulted in a fatal. Again trying to run from the cops, and yet the worse bit seems to be the cops had backed off, and weren’t actively pursuing, yet the driver has continued on at speed, causing his own death on roads he didn’t know
Police will back off when it is dangerous to travel at that speed, its a HINT.
The war that is P, nothing else really can be said here, other than it needs to be a major target for Police.
So first up we have a poll done by the Herald, where they have concluded that 65% of responders support the un-armed police force with armed AOS response when needed. Mind you that is after the latest shooting incident that happened over the xmas period, and I don’t believe this poll really reflects the majority of opinion in this regard. Quite a few of the people I deal with would be quite happy for the police to have better access to items that will ensure an appropriate response to a situation, ie guns, tasers, etc.
The above is of course linked to the shooting of constable Snow, where the accused has name protection for the time being.
Is it really a police cover up, or are we expecting too much from our police. Ie yes they could have gone and arrested him prior to him slipping through, but does that make them responsible for the resulting deaths?? Maybe we should open it up a little and say the mum is responsible for failing to keep her son at home?? Or maybe people should stop looking to place blame all the time, and focus on what should or could have been done correctly. If you focus solely on the blame game, then there will be no winners, every little thing was done wrong, no matter what it was. When in reality the driver chose to drive in the manner that he did, resulting in the deaths that he/she caused. This is similar to saying the tree caused the accident because it shouldn’t have been there, or describing roads as “Killer Roads”, when the road has done nothing.
Why do people not learn? Pretty much says it all, why is it acceptable for people to just keep on doing illegal actions? Don’t they have friends/family that can stop them, or maybe they just don’t want to?
